Driving Cam!

January 29th, 2009 (01:24 pm)

OK, so I have been wanting to do this for a while now and finally got round to trying it out.

Taking a leaf out of all the police, camera whatever shows I wanted to mount a camera on the dash of my car to catch all the less than perfect drivers out there. As you would not believe some of the things I see people do out on those roads!!

So to start with I did a test run with the camera on the way to Aberdeen. Just to see how it faired, would it stay up right, would it actually be watchable afterwards. This seemed to go well, I edited it down to 5 minutes, it was an hour's tape after all. The bit shows me going through Dundee and out onto the road to Aberdeen. Here is that clip on You Tube

So good to go I thought. Next trip I take down to Blackpool I use it, this was last Monday and all was well. Until the last couple of miles and I learn that the mounting of the camera will need a little tweaking! Someone pulls out a little and I break a little heavy, the camera decides it does not like its perch and tumbles down the dash! Have a look at the very short Blackpool trip clip.

So hope you enjoyed those little clips. I am hoping to bring you more humous ones over the coming days, weeks and months. Though that does depend on the public driving stupid!!

Oh and if you have any bright ideas about mounting the camera a little more securly let me know!!

Stay shiny

:)

The Spirit

January 24th, 2009 (11:01 pm)

So went and say this the other day, first movie of the year!

This is from they same folk at 300 and Sin City. It has a lot in common with Sin City in its style and look. With cuts to cartoonish scene cuts and bold colours.

The story over all is good and works well with the cinematography. The acting from some of the cast was a little over the top, but then I think that that was supposed to be the case.

The costums where also fantastic, over the top in places, but again it is supposed to be! And hey the female leads had brilliant outfits, with Scarlett and Eva looking fantastic!

It has left its self open to a sequel which could be good, if done right, so lets see what happens there.

Over all I would give this a 6 out of 10.

British Roads (or the drivers on them!!)

January 12th, 2009 (08:39 pm)

Well I did a fair bit of driving today, Glasgow to Blackpool and then from Blackpool to Newcastle.

On the road down to Blackpool I passed a couple of major accidents. In fact one was so bad the M74 was closed for several miles and this meant I had to take a detour through country roads to get south! But that is not my main moan today!

The thing that really ticked me off today was the number of fucking edjits that change lane on the motorway without looking! Several times today I had to swerve out the lane I had been travelling in to avoid being hit buy some Muppet that does not know what those reflecting things at the side and in the middle of his/her (as both men and woman fucked up today!) car are for. Now we know that woman think mirrors are for putting make up on, but WTF where the guys doing? Seeing how long they can look straight ahead!

It was not restricted to the usual "White Van Men" or "Old Ladies" there where what looked like business men, woman with "Baby On Board" stickers, though the later usually means stay the fuck away as I am too busy dealing with the badly behaved kids to even try and control the car properly!

No wonder there are so many accidents with folk just not paying attention to the road and being courtious to each other.

Thank me I just like to keep an eye in my mirror's and know where I can put the car in an emergency!

Well enough moaning for just now, catch you all later!

F*cking Tourists!!

July 23rd, 2008 (01:35 am)

Ok, was up at Coylumbridge with work on Monday. I had to stop at Dunkeld to drop something off. Which I did on the way home. So was heading out of Dunkeld when at the T-junction to the A9 there was a car sitting a couple of yeards from the give way lines.

Now not sure what he was up to I sit behind him a couple of yards, waiting for him to move. After a few seconds he does move, but not forward and onto the A9 as I thought he would, but reverses into me at speed. As he was driving a VW people carrier against my Focus it did a fair amount of damage to the front of my car.

So we swap details, he is a tourist from Norfolk and they did not know where they where going! So I had to give them that as well. I had to call the insurance company and due to the time had to get the car recovered by the RAC. Which involved waiting for them for 2 hours and then a 2 hour drive back in a tow truck!

So I should be getting the car taken to the repairers tomorrow. Hopefully it will not take to long to get sorted.

F*cking Tourists, wish they looked in there mirrors before hitting reverse!!

Wall-e

July 23rd, 2008 (01:17 am)

This is the latest movie from Pixar and you just know its going to be good.

Now the trailer gave me an idea of what I thought the movie would be like, but to be honest the movie is totally different in my opinion. It has a lot more story and character to it than I thought it would have. This gave it a deeper story, that while missed on the kids, might just make you stop and think about some stuff.

The whole movie also has little dialogue. Which works very well. Its really only towards the second half that it kicks in.

It is a really fun and enjoyable movie, one that both little and big kids will enjoy. It has a lot of funny and moving scenes in it and the graphics are great as you would expect from Pixar.

I enjoyed the movie so much that I saw it twice in two days, though that's Philippa's fault!

Over all I would give this movie a 9 out of 10

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian

July 23rd, 2008 (12:40 am)

This is the second of the Narnia series of movies (and books) it is set about a year after the first in British time and a 1000 years later in Narnian times.

Every thing has changed when they return to Narnia and they must help the Narnian's retake their kingdom.

Not wanting to give the story away I will not tell you any more than that. Though it is predictable.

The movie is long, but that is something that does not detract from its quality. It has a lot to tell and you need the time to enjoy the story and the spectacle. They have some great battle scenes as well as some great character development.

I really enjoyed this movie and would recomend you see it, especially if you like a good bit of fantasy.

Over all I would give this a 7 out of 10.

Hancock

July 16th, 2008 (11:38 am)

The story here is that Hancock is a superhero who does not care how he looks or is seen by others. He just gets on with his own thing and fights crime in his own way! Causing millions of dollars of damage along the way.

Then at one point he save the life of a PR guy who takes it upon himself to improve Hancock's image.

This I think is a great take on the superhero genre and it does go a little way to being more realistic with the consequences of their actions. It also has some great scenes it between Hancock and the bad guys (and some good guys!)

It also has a great twist to the story as well. Which helps explain the who story and give what I thought was a good ending.

Over all I would give it a 7 out of 10

The Forbidden Kingdom

July 14th, 2008 (08:17 pm)

This is what I would call a classic kung fu movie. It took me back to the 80's when I used to watch all those movies with my dad and brother. The one's like Drunken Monk and those that had all the fancy kung fu in them.

It had a great story and action to match. With both Jackie Chan and Jet Li being great in their respective characters. Even the slighty soppy American story to it did not ruin this movie. It made it work and was enjoyable.

Do not want to say to much about this one, as you really should just see it and enjoy the spectacle.

I would have to give this an 8 out of 10.

Incredible Hulk

July 14th, 2008 (08:16 pm)

Now I am sure you will know the story of this one. Boy plays with science experiment, it goes wrong. He turns green when not happy.

Ok its been done a few times in the movies, and while I like the last one this is far better. Its a lot more darker I think and shows some characters in a more realistic light. The chase round the favela's (*sp) was great and and the fight scenes later on where also fantastic, with the Hulk learning and adapting to things and not just smashing things. Though he did use that great line "Hulk Smash" which I am sure had all the fan boys creaming their pants.

Having Ms Tyler as the love interest was great as well as she carried off the part well and hey she is cute (not that I am shallow or anything!)

It also at the end had a visit from Robert Downey Jr as Stark, which I am sure you all know is leading up to some sort of super super hero smash down movie, with Iron Man, Hulk, SHIELD and a couple of the other Marvel movies that are coming out will tie in also.

Over all I think I would give this a 7 out of 10 for sheer fun and enjoyment.
